Ollúnachta Ó hUigín

O'Higgins Chair

Since Gaelic times, the name O'Higgins/Higgins has been strongly associated with education in Ireland. During the Gaelic era many members of this family were Ollamhs in the bardic schools of Ireland and this tradition has continued to modern times when we find the name O'Higgins/Higgins among teachers and lecturers in schools and colleges throughout Ireland and all over the world. Consequently, in 2007 the Árd Comhairle (Executive Council) of the O'Higgins Clan Society highlighted the need to establish a Chair of Education in an Irish University that would honour all those of the O'Higgins/Higgins name who have contributed to education in Ireland and abroad.

Once established the O'Higgins Chair of Education will focus on teaching and research related to the promotion education as a means of personal development and tolerance for diversity in society.

In order to achieve our aim of establishing the O'Higgins Chair of Education, the Árd Comhairle is currently in negotiation with an Irish University and a possible benefactor who will endow the Chair.

If you would like to support this project financially or if you can assist us by recommending benefactors who might be interested in contributing to this endowment please contact the Árd Rúnaí of the Clan Dr. James O'Higgins-Norman at info@ohigginsclan.com

Go raibh maith agaibh - Thank you
