Karl O'Higgins of Ballynary

Karl O'Higgins of Ballynary has been acclaimed by the O'Higgins Clan as Chief of the Clan.   Chief Karl has asked us to introduce him to the Clan at large and his biography gives us an insight into his career and interests.

Chief Karl was born and raised in the North West of England to Irish parents. Through his father he descends from the O'Higgins Barons of Ballynary and through his mother he descends from Alphonsi Du Prat , a French Surgeon General and Chevalier in the Légion d'honneur. Following in his father's footsteps, engineering was always destined to be his career, given his technical aptitude. Following a spell in the Fire Service, then Canada for a few years, Karl moved into the dental business in 1993. Combining technical skills with the desire to help people, Karl has carved out a successful dental industry career commencing in the R&D lab and product development, through sales & marketing management, then responsible for A-dec?s operations throughout the UK and Ireland and more recently Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

A self-confessed, part-time philanthropist, Karl has been involved in charity work for several years now, both within dental and the wider charitable community. Karl has supported Bridge2Aid since 2004 when he was approached to help set-up Hope Dental Centre in Tanzania. In 2006 he travelled with his late wife Joanna to supervise the installation of two treatment rooms in Mwanza and he continues as a member of the charity's board to plan for further developments in Tanzania.
