David Higgins (FCA)

David Higgins FCA is Director of Finance at the Dublin Docklands Development Authority Finance, IT, Facilities.

Education: Third level: University College Dublin, Bachelor of Commerce (Hons), 1985; Second level: O’Connell Schools, Dublin.

Other qualifications: Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland(FCA), 1989

Professional Memberships: Member of the Pharmaceutical Managers Institute (2000)

Career progress: 1986 – 1989 Deloitte & Touche, audit senior. Working on a range of multinational and Irish audit clients; 1990 – 1991 Bank of Ireland Lifetime, financial reporting accountant, responsible for statutory reporting and audit at the BOI subsidiary; 1992-1993 Credit Card Software International, finance manager, responsible for finance function; 1993- 2000 Pharmacia Ireland, financial controller with responsibility for finance & distribution. In particular lead the functions through four mergers; 2000 – 2003 Pharmacia Ireland, finance director. Part of the team that delivered the best growth of any pharma over that period in the Irish market; 2004 – Apr 2005 ESB International, commercial manager. Responsible for bid and contract review and international tax planning on a number of overseas assignments; Apr 2005 – to date director of finance, Dublin Docklands Development Authority.

Special projects: At Pharmacia part of team working on pan European IT platforms & distribution solutions.

Personal: Date of birth: 7th August 1964; Place of birth: Dublin; Family: Married to Ciara. Two children – Ruairi aged 7 and Ailbhe aged 5.

Social & sporting memberships: Member of Sanovitae gym at the IFSC.

Interests: Good restaurants, music, following Arsenal FC.

Recommended books: Business: For Your Improvement by Michael Lombardo & Robert Eichinger. It changed the way I work and takes you from the theoretical to the practical – essential reading. Non-business: Anything by Joe O’Connor, short stories by Woody Allen.
