On the 16th September the Chilean Ambassador to Ireland Snr. Searle led a commemoration at the O'Higgins Monument in Merrion Square Park to mark the 200th anniversary of Chilean independence and the contribution of Bernardo O'Higgins as Chile's 1st Head of State. Several members of the O'Higgins family and wider clan joined Ambassador Searle for the celebration and Chief Thomas was represented by Dr. James O'Higgins Norman who made a presentation on his behalf.
