B. O’Higgins was born in San Tomé, Venezuela. Due to his father’s
employment in the petroleum industry, Mr. O’Higgins grew up living and
studying in various countries in South America, Southeast Asia, North Africa,
and Europe before returning to the United States in 1965.
Mr. O’Higgins earned a B.S. in Economics from Siena College in 1970, and worked briefly for New York State and then The Procter & Gamble Company. He entered the investment business in 1971 as a stockbroker trainee for Spencer Trask & Company, followed by a stint at White, Weld & Company. He started his own money management firm in 1978.
Considered one of the top money managers in the United States since 1978, Mr. O’Higgins has been the subject of articles in virtually every major news publication, including Time Magazine, Barron’s, Forbes, Business Week, Money Magazine, Financial World, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, USA Today, and The Financial Times. He has been featured as a special guest on CNBC’s Smart Money and PBS’ Wall $treet Week with Louis Rukeyser.
Mr. O’Higgins is the author of the best-selling investment classic: Beating the Dow (HarperCollins, 1991), as well as Beating the Dow with Bonds (HarperCollins, 1999).
