Dr. Thomas F. O'Higgins T.D.
Dr. Thomas F. O'Higgins was the first leader of the quasi paramilitary Blueshirts. Brother of Kevin O'Higgins. Founder of the Army Comrades Association, or the Blueshirts. Leader of Fine Gael in the Dáil in 1944, while their leader Richard Mulcahy was a member of the Seanad. Served as Minister for Defense during the First Inter-Party Government, until becoming Minister for Industry and Commerce in March 1951. Father of future TD, Presidential challenger and Chief Justice Thomas F. O'Higgins. He served as TD from Leix Offaly from 1932 to 1954.
